KAVANAUGH/FORD: ONE LAST THOUGHT ON CONFIRMATION BIAS AND IRRATIONAL THINKING

The hearing this week, is an example of what neurologists and those who study critical thinking call "confirmation bias." In other words, we interpret what we hear and see to confirm our beliefs. For example, some of those on the right who adore Trump, have called Dr. Ford a witch and a liar, and friends on the left who hate Trump call Kavanaugh a rapist. They are listening to the same hearings, but without the honest realization that none of us were there thirty plus years ago and know exactly what happened. Only God does. The two parties don't even recall or know completely all details. Even the religious lens is skewed.

For example, I've received posts and messages from "Christians" that we must pray for Brett Kavanaugh and his family. If they were truly Christlike, they would be asking me to pray for both Kavanaugh and Ford's families. Both families and their spouses and children have suffered. There is also a lot of irrational thinking which is the demonization of others. The right demonizes Dr. Ford as a liar and part of an anti-Trump conspiracy. She is a professor, and research psychologist at Stanford, a wife and a mother. She is not a witch.

Left-wingers demonize Kavanaugh as an evil rapist. If he did molest Ford as a teenage drunk jock, it was a horrific act, but that doesn't make him forever, 100 percent evil. He has a nice family now and is not 100 percent bad. Humans do bad things, all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but that does not damn them beyond the possibility of redemption and forgiveness. This is my last post on this because you've already heard more than you want to and probably need a break from it this weekend.
