EASTER POEM

My Dad died
My Mom
Thought she heard his voice
Calling on her answering machine
Distant & soft
Like the sun after a cold winter
We wondered if it was a wrong number
"No," she said. "It's him. He's alive.
Calling from heaven."

Mary Magdalene
Said she saw Him at the tomb
The disciples disbelieved
Then they heard His voice
Calling "I am the resurrection"
Like Spring flowers blooming
The kiss of first love exploding

After the fireworks
Joy turned to tears
For those who got no message
On their answering machine
And couldn't yet hear the call
Of His voice
