CLEMENTE CASTING BREAKDOWN

Baseball's Last Hero: The Roberto Clemente Story
A feature film writtten and directed by Academy Award-considered filmmaker Richard Rossi. The theme of the movie is "Greater love has no man, than to lay down his life for his friends." This long-awaited unauthorized biography will show how Roberto was not only the greatest right-fielder of all time, but also a great humanitarian. We are currently planning to shoot Non Union. No pay, but you will get an IMDB Credit in a film that will be finished and distributed internationally.

Here's a Breakdown of Cast and Crew Needed:

ROBERTO CLEMENTE: Dark-skinned Puerto Rican. The greatest, most graceful baseball player of all time. Handsome and athletic. Able to play 18-38. Able to speak English and Spanish. LEAD

VERA CLEMENTE: Puerto Rican, light-brown skin, drop-dead gorgeous. 22-38 Able to speak English and Spanish. LEAD

MANNY SANGUILLEN: 20's -30's Catcher from Colon, Panama, dark-skinned, Cheshire Cat infectious smile, enthusiastic, a passionate faith in Jesus. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferable. Roberto's best friend. Great throwing arm from behind the plate.

YOUNG ROBERTO: Age 7, dark-skinned. Able to speak Spanish. Able to play baseball.

YOUNG LUISA CLEMENTE: (20's -30's) Puerto Rican, kind face. Dignified, muscular shoulders and arms.

OLDER LUISA CLEMENTE: (50's - 60's) Puerto Rican, kind face. Dignified, muscular shoulders and arms.

YOUNG LUIS CLEMENTE: Nine years-old. Puerto Rican, able to play baseball.

OLDER LUIS CLEMENTE: 20's, dark-skinned Puerto Rican.

YOUNG MELCHOR CLEMENTE: (20's- 30's) Short man. Dark-skinned Puerto Rican. Works in sugar cane fields.

OLDER MELCHOR CLEMENTE: (50's-60's) Short man. Dark-skinned Puerto Rican. Worked in sugar cane fields.

BOB PRINCE: 50+, Sportscaster, raspy voice, colorful character.

DANNY MURTAUGH: Middle-aged manager, an Irishman with watery eyes and a bitter mouth. Murtaugh is desolate over his losing team.

BILL MAZEROSKI: 2nd baseman gregarious, crew cut, heard above the rest. Able to play 20's through 40's.

ROGER MELNICK: Outspoken newspaper reporter. Racist and cynical. A complete a--hole.

BRANCH RICKEY: 50 or older, wears wire-rimmed glasses. CEO. A large man in three-piece suit and crooked bow-tie with a mixture of faith and business opportunism that strengthens him to break racial barriers and hire black and Latino players.

WILLIE STARGELL: Black player, slugger, 20's - 30's, a little chubby with a Cuba Gooding or Forest Whitaker face.

DICK STUART: Baseball player, Stocky, short dark hair.

BILL VIRDON: Asst. Coach, Wire-rimmed glasses, 40

DOCK ELLIS: Black, pitcher, flashy, cigar-smoking, brash partyer.

RICHIE HEBNER: White. Third baseman. New England accent.

BOB ROBERTSON: Redhead, big, powerful arms. A slugger. Late 20's to early thirties.

AL CAMPANIS: Middle-aged, a baseball scout.

FORD FRICK: Baseball committee chairman, the modicum of propriety and order.

BALLPLAYERS: 20's-30's. All races and types. Athletic, Must be able to play ball.

CHILDREN & TEENAGERS: Puerto Rican, able to speak Spanish.

EQUIPMENT MANAGER: Middle-aged.

TONY BARTIROME: Trainer, Italian, slightly receding. Calm but able to explode with righteous indignation.

BASEBALL ANNOUNCER: Has a good broadcast, play-by-play voice.

REPORTERS: Members of a pack of slanderous Pittsburgh reporters.

BASEBALL PITCHERS: All races. Must have a professional-looking pitching delivery.

MRS. ETTA POWERS: Black woman, 40+, hospitable host to black ballplayers during segregation.

MR. ZABALA: Mid-forties to early fifties. Vera's father, light-skinned black, Puerto Rican, old world and old school.

BASEBALL COACHES: Middle aged

BASEBALL CATCHERS: Experience playing the position of catcher preferred.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR: In his prime.

BING CROSBY: Famed crooner. Late 60's.

OFFICIOUS ASSISTANT: Male, a handler, administrative assistant. Nerdy.

DOCTOR: Male, a gentleman with authority.

WAITRESS: In the South, 1950's - 1960's.

POLICEMAN: Southern, authoritative.

SALESMAN: Smarmy, small-minded racist.

THUGS: Tough guys

DINER OWNER: Male, 50's Puerto Rican

LEAGUE COMMISSIONER: Conservative business type, on the other side of middle-aged.

CHAPERONES: Burly Puerto Rican bodyguards.

GROUNDSMAN: Loves taking care of the field and the grass.

PHARMACIST: Male

BASEBALL FANS: Various ages and types.

PUERTO RICAN BOYS: Ages 4-10 to play Roberto's sons

CELEBRITY LOOKALIKES: Lookalikes for Stars who were alive and popular in 1960's and early 1970's

AIRLINE PILOT: Ideal if you have uniform circa 1972

KATHY: Blonde, 30

UMPIRES: Ideal if you have uniform

SMARMY MAN: Oily

NERDY ACCOUNTANT: A nebbish

CAB DRIVER: From Baltimore
